Human population by 2050 is projected to reach 9.2 billion causing the global demand for livestock products will increase. To fulfill the growing demand, both animal population and productivity should be accelerated to avoid any deteriorational effect on animal resources. Increasing human population is not the only threat to animal production sustainability. Another threat is climate change which recently leads to unpredictable environment condition in animal production system. To overcome the negative impact, it is necessary to empower local resources which are more available and less competitive to human needs.
Several efforts have been done by scientists from several countries to improve animal production system especially dealing with climate change. To gather information on recent advances of the efforts and in an attempt to disseminate the results, the Second International Seminar on Animal Industry (ISAI) will be conducted following the great success of the First ISAI in 2009. The theme of the Second ISAI is "Empowering Local Resources for Sustainable Animal Production in Adapting to Climate Change".
The program of the Second ISAI will include plenary session by international well recognized experts in their fields and supported by parallel session presented by participants. The presentation will be grouped into several aspects such as breeding, genetic, reproduction, nutrition, physiology, feed technology, animal product technology, meat science, grassland science, animal agribusiness, etc. Participants to this seminar come from faculty members, researchers, farmers, government officers, businessmen, and related stakeholders.
The Second ISAI will be held in concurrence to the Seventh Indo Livestock 2012 Expo and Forum which are currently the largest exhibition in animal and feed industry in Indonesia covering animal production, equipment, feed industry, animal health and related fields. This event will be jointly organized by Faculty of Animal Science-Bogor Agricultural University, Animal Scientists’ Society of Indonesia (HILPI) and PT. Napindo Media Ashatama. Approximately 350 exhibitors from 39 different countries will be participated in this expo & forum. It is a great opportunity for animal scientists and industrial communities to take advantage from this event by sharing knowledge and experience in this prestigious Second ISAI.
